Broken Systems, Rising Spirit
This work speaks to the impact of colonisation and the broken systems of power that continue to affect Aboriginal women today.
Through layered marks, chaotic movement and fractured forms, the painting reflects the disruption imposed on our communities — the dismantling of cultural systems, kinship structures and the strength of women within them.
The pink field represents both vulnerability and resilience. Across the surface, lines collide, fracture and overlap, symbolising systems of control, surveillance and imposed authority.
Yet within this disruption, new pathways form.
Despite generations of oppression, Aboriginal women continue to rise, carry culture and hold communities together. The work speaks to survival, resistance and the unbreakable spirit of First Nations women.
